AANZFTA Combats Anti-Competitive Activities
2 December 2016Competition officials from Malaysia and Viet Nam attended a workshop held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 25 to 27 October 2016 to bolster countries’ enforcement of its competition law through effective gathering and handling of evidence against anticompetitive business activities. Workshop participants included representatives from the Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC), the Viet Nam Competition Authority (VCA), the Viet Nam Competition Council’s Office, and the Viet Nam Police Academy.
The workshop is funded by the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA) Economic Support Program (AECSP) under the Competition Law Implementation Program (CLIP) Phase II. Implemented by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), CLIP Phase II aims to assist ASEAN Member States in effectively implementing their respective competition regulations in line with the ASEAN Competition Action Plan 2025.
The promotion of business competition is a principle that underpins the objectives of AANFZTA and, more broadly, the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2025. Competition spurs business innovation, encourages investments, and boosts opportunities for equitable economic development. A competitive and dynamic economy, for instance, provides consumers with more and better-priced goods and services.
The workshop introduced participants to the fundamental elements of evidence gathering and facilitated interactive hands-on sessions on effective interviewing. The activity is a follow-up to a previous workshop on Cartel Investigation Skills held in Hoi
An, Viet Nam in August 2016.
