Chapter 5 of the AANZFTA reaffirms the principles of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Agreement in the development, application or recognition of any SPS measure to facilitate trade among the Parties while at the same time protecting human, animal or plant health in the region.

Under this Chapter, AANZFTA Parties shall provide greater transparency in and understanding of the application of each Party’s regulations and procedures relating to SPS measures. AANZFTA also aims to explore opportunities for collaboration and information exchange on SPS matters, including strengthening cooperation for technical assistance that would help facilitate trade.
